A Better Cheese Pizza

Thoughts

In the beginning of this year, my 6-year-old was tasked to come up with one family tradition we'd be following this year every week, no exceptions. My three conditions were for it to be something that we can all do together, be the same for everyone, and that it must live in a screen-free realm.

My son suggested Pizza Thursdays. Amazing, right? Yes, but also not really. Pizza Thursdays in my interpretation would be trying different pizzas every week, and really going out of my way to find unusual flavors to make it fun and adventurous. Unfortunately, that's not happening because my son is a perfect example of a picky eater who'd rather starve to death than have anything but a cheese pizza. Maaaaaybe a pepperoni (depends on a salami).

And so my husband and I are stuck with having a cheese pizza every Thursday. Thankfully, from different places. But still, five months in, it's starting to get old. There's no chance in hell that next year I'm making the same mistake with "must be same for everyone" rule, but for now, I found a loophole.

Every Thursday, we get that "same for everyone" cheese pizza or make it from scratch, and then my husband and I go to town with our slices and make them more interesting. Our latest favorite is adding sliced peaches and topping them with a mix of honey and chili flakes. We don't bake our toppings in because our son's definition of cross-contamination belongs to books on authoritarian rulers, but having them fresh is nice in its own way.

Oh well. Peaches.

That's all I have to say.
